I have found that the best advice comes from asking an expert what they use for their own family. Today I asked three heating and air conditioning experts which HVAC accessory they love most or can’t live without in their own homes.
What’s Your “Must Have” HVAC Product?
James: Probably my steam humidifier.
I’ve had regular evaporative pad humidifiers and it helps, it’s certainly better than having nothing. However, I like to be able to maintain the exact humidity that I want regardless if it’s how cold it is outside. Also with a steam humidifier there’s less waste, it’s quiet, and my son has asthma so maintaining certain humidity levels is important.
Plus there are added benefits such as I’m not shocking the dog when I pet the dog, and there is just less static in your house. It is a warmer heat. In fact, we had a steam humidifier in our last house and when we moved into a new house after our first winter month, I got another one. I was reminded quickly what I was missing.
Jordan: Micro power guard. I have four animals. We have a lot of pet hair, dust, dander, and allergies so it’s not a great combination. The air cleaner to me is the most valuable. It keeps my system clean.
I was just mentioning earlier in our training that my wife and I were having itchy eyes and some allergy issues recently. I changed my Micropower Guard filter without thinking about it and our symptoms went away. That’s why it’s my favorite.
Ramon: I love them all and I have every accessory available. However for me, I have to have my zoning system. I live in a 3,000 square foot house and I have four zones in my home. Four thermostats, one air conditioner, one furnace. I can heat and cool four different zones at one time.
When we purchased this house it was about two years old and the previous owners had put solar film on the windows, heavy thermal blinds in the office, they were obviously not comfortable. I came in and put the proper sized air conditioner in and together with my zoning system, our house is always comfortable in every room on every level. So yes, for me my zoning panel is my “must have” HVAC product.
